Dirk Denoyelle goes European with "A Face for Europe" !
On October 29th Dirk Denoyelle started the "A Face for Europe" project with about 80 children from the 25 European member states. "A Face for Europe", is a giant charity event, initiated by the Brussels based Communications Office Morris&Chapman and sponsored by PlasticsEurope.
On November 23rd this project was presented to the new European Commission. Mr. Josep Borrell, president of the European Parliament, was very pleased with both his portrait AND the entire event !

For this project, Dirk built:
The LEGO heads of Mr Barroso, President of the European Commission and Mr Borrell, president of the European Parliament,
Mosaics of the other 24 European Commissioners
A 1mx1m1.5m building, representing a symbolic European "house".
In order to construct that European building all these children were invited at LEGO Festival. They made the 25 flags that are mounted on top of the building. Over 150,000 bricks are incorporated in this project.
Moreover every memeber of the European Parliament has received a miniland-figurine. For every MP that put his figurine on the building staircase, the sponsor PlasticsEurope donated 25 Euro to the charities: Europe's Children – Our Concern andthe United Fund for Belgium.

Arrival of the bricks. Over 300,000, as the project is to be doubled (LEGO Benelux needs a copy, of course...)

Everybody has to help to build the 732 Europarliamentarians !

The building under construction. A mixture of all European (and even Arabic) architecture styles !

And
so is the Irish flag ! |
And
that's the result. After LEGO Festival Dirk has (had) three weeks to finish
the project. |

And this is what the mosaics look like. Unfortunately, not all of the people that were predicted to become members of the European Commission actually DID so. That means Buttiglione, Udre, and a few other mosaics were made... in vain! |

For those who like the small details : only 6 days before the big event on november 23rd, "A Face for Europe", Dirk had to start all over building Josep Borrell, president of the EU Parliament. The first version was too thin, it seemed ! |

Mr. Borrell places his miniland-figurine on the stairs of the building. Another 25 Euros for the charities ! Behind him (the blond lady) is EU Commissioner Danuta Hubner (Poland). And in the back, Viscount Etienne d'Avignon, patron of the project, is watching with great attention. |
